QMED-Fireman/Oiler/Watertender (FOWT)
This course is a self-paced online format based on the 150 hour standard classroom QMED-FOWT Course.
- A mariner who successfully completes the course within 1 year of application will satisfy the professional examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.501(c)(5) for national rating endorsements as QMED-Oiler and Fireman/Watertender.
Course Requirements
A smart phone, tablet or computer is required to work through the course.
The following is the minimum computer requirements for the final proctor exams:
- Desktop or laptop computer (Mac, Windows, or Chromebook)
- Windows 7 or newer / macOS 10.10 or newer
- Macs require a minimum of macOS 10.10.
- Minimum internet speed: 1 Mbps download & upload
- Google Chrome (version 74 or higher)
- Web camera and microphone (required for final exam)
Testing Requirements:
- QMED-Steam/General 1: 50 Questions 70% to pass
- QMED-Oiler/Generals 2: 50 Questions 70% to pass
- Attempts Allowed: 3 each
All exams are conducted online within the course in partnership with our proctoring provider, SmarterServices.
