Tank Vessel Dangerous Liquids (Formally Tankerman PIC)
This course is self-paced in an online format based on the 40 hour standard classroom Tankermen PIC course, IMO Model Course 1.01 (Basic Training for Oil & Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations) and Model Course 1.02 (Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations)
Any mariner who successfully completes this course will satisfy the training requirements of the following:
- 46 CFR 13.201(c)(4) for original issuance or 46 CFR 13.120(a)(2) for renewal of Tankerman-PIC (DL); and
- 46 CFR 13.301(c)(4) for original issuance or 46 CFR 13.120(c)(2) for renewal of Tankerman-PIC (Barge) (DL); and
- 46 CFR 13.401(e)(1) for original issuance or 46 CFR 13.120(b)(2) for renewal of Tankerman-Assistant (DL); and
- 46 CFR 13.501(c)(4) for original issuance or 46 CFR 13.120(d)(2) for renewal of Tankerman-Engineer (DL); and
- 46 CFR 13.609(a)(2) / STCW Code Section A-V/1, Table A-V/1-1-1 (Basic Oil & Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations).
Additionally, to receive the Advanced Oil and/or Advanced Chemical STCW endorsement(s), the applicant must submit a statement signed by the Master, Chief Mate, or Chief Engineer (as appropriate to the endorsement sought) of an oil and/or chemical tanker attesting the mariner is fully capable of supervising transfers of dangerous liquid cargo in accordance with NVIC 22-14, Enclosure (1), paragraphs 4 or 5. With that statement, this training also meets:
- 46 CFR 13.603(a)(2), (b)(2), (c)(2) / STCW Code Table A-V/1-1-2 (Advanced Oil Tanker Cargo Operations); and/or
- 46 CFR 13.605(a)(2), (b)(2), (c)(2) / STCW Code Table A-V/1-1-3 (Advanced Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations).
Course Requirements

The following are the minimum computer requirements for the final proctor exams:
- Desktop or laptop computer (Mac, Windows, or Chromebook)
- Windows 7 or newer / macOS 10.10 or newer
- Macs require a minimum of macOS 10.10.
- Minimum internet speed: 1 Mbps download & upload
- Google Chrome (version 74 or higher)
- Web camera and microphone (required for final exam)

- Final Exam: 50 multiple-choice questions
- Passing Score: 70%
- Attempts Allowed: 3
- Exam Format: AI-proctored online via SmarterServices
