Do I have to finish in a certain number of weeks?

Each course provides you ample time to complete. Beacon Maritime Training courses are self-paced, allowing you to complete the training around your work schedule. You’ll have ample time to finish the course while balancing work, family, and sea time.

What if I lose internet halfway through a lesson?

No problem. Your progress is automatically saved as you move through the course. Once your internet connection is restored, simply log back in and continue where you left off.

Can I message my instructor?

Absolutely. If you have questions during the course, our instructors are available by email to help clarify course material and answer technical questions.

What does the NMC submission look like?

After successfully completing your course, you’ll receive your Beacon Maritime Training Course Completion Certificate and any required supporting documentation. Simply include these documents with your National Maritime Center (NMC) application package. You will also receive a free 1 year access to MM-Seas, our credentialing partner and experts at navigating the USCG.

Can I complete the course while I’m at sea?

Yes. Many of our students complete their training while actively sailing. As long as you have internet access, you can log in and work through the course from anywhere in the world.

How long do I have access to the course?

You will have one year from your enrollment date to complete the course, giving you the flexibility to train around your sailing schedule.

What computer or device do I need?

Our courses work on most modern computers, laptops, and tablets with an internet connection. You will be required to have a desktop or laptop with a Chrome browser for final testing.

Are the final exams proctored?

Yes. Final exams are AI-proctored provided by our proctoring partner SmarteServices. This proctoring system is used to maintain the integrity of the Coast Guard-approved course. A webcam, microphone, ID verification and proper room scan are required before testing begins.

What happens if I don’t pass the final exam?

Students receive up to three attempts to successfully complete each final exam. If additional assistance is needed, our instructors are available to help you prepare before your next attempt.

Is there a minimum amount of time I must spend in the course?

Some Coast Guard-approved courses include a minimum required training time before the final exams will unlock. Your course dashboard will track your progress automatically, and your logged time updates daily.

Can I access the course 24/7?

Yes. Your course is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, allowing you to study whenever it fits your schedule.

Will my progress be saved?

Yes. Your course progress, quiz scores, and completed lessons are automatically saved, so you can leave and return at any time without losing your work.

What if I need technical support?

If you experience technical issues or have trouble accessing your course, simply contact Beacon Maritime Training. We’ll work with you to resolve the issue as quickly as possible so you can get back to training.
